SurfaceNode
Paint a surface with nodes, like Blender's material nodes: mix noise, pictures and curves point by point across a part, the same in Solid and path traced.
A SurfaceNode lives in a NodeLayout and is worked out at every point of a surface; its diamond sockets carry one value per point. Kind picks what it does, from Value, Position, Normal and UV to Project, Noise, Math, Mix and Curves. Wire an output into a TexturePack channel such as Texture or RoughnessMap and that channel comes from the graph. On a part, Properties > Surface > Edit surface nodes opens its pack in the Nodes window.
